A whistleblower has raised concerns that Freedom Foods may be breaking the Food Standards Code over the production process of its UHT milk at its Shepparton factory in Victoria.
One of the key planks of the manufacturer’s future is selling high-value whey protein called lactoferrin, which is stripped from its UHT milk before the intense heating process occurs.
The whistleblower said if Freedom Foods were forced to stop this process it would significantly impact the profitability of the business.
Freedom Foods strips out the lactoferrin ahead of processing UHT milk. The whey protein commands about $1200/Kilo given its health properties.
