Lawyer moves NHRC against 'trigger happy' Assam cops | Guwahati News

GUWAHATI: A Delhi-based lawyer from Assam has lodged a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the Assam Police for a series of encounters that have taken place ever since the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government took charge two months ago. He also urged the rights body to take cognisance and institute an inquiry into these incidents.
Arif Jwadder - who hails from Guwahati - in his complaint to the rights body on Saturday said small-time criminals were being shot at by police and the reason cited for such fake encounters was that they tried to flee from police custody after snatching weapons . ....

New Delhi: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions which is spearheading the protest against the Centre’s agri laws, on Thursday held a four-hour long Rail Roko Andolan .
Meanwhile, the Indian Railways has said that the agitation passed off peacefully and it didn t have any significant impact on the running of trains across the country. Rail Roko agitation passed off without any untoward incident. There was negligible or minimal impact on running of the trains across the country. Train movement in all zones is normal now. Few trains were stopped in some areas but now train operation is normal, ....

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], February 18 (ANI): Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait on Thursday said that rail roko , the blockade of trains as part of protests against farm laws, will be done in a peaceful manner and food and refreshments provided to people stranded due to the protest. He also stated that he will not join politics as he considers it a big disease .
Rail roko protest will begin at 12 pm and go on till 3-4 pm. Trains are not plying anyway. It ll be done peacefully. We ll provide water, milk, lassi and fruits to people who are stranded. We will inform them about our issues, he said. ....
