Ravi Riverfront Project: LHC bars govt from land buying

LAHORE:The Lahore High Court Thursday took notice of land acquisition for Ravi Riverfront Project despite a stay order and restrained the Punjab government from any process till the EIA of the PM’s flagship.
Hearing multiple petitions, Justice Shahid Karim referred to media reports about the clash of the revenue officials and the farmers and asked a provincial law officer as to why the land was being evacuated for the project after a stay. The law officer said it was a public hearing by the land collector under section 9 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894. The judge observed that the court was previously told that the notification issued under section 4 of the Act for the land acquisition was withdrawn. He said it was unfortunate that the farmers were being subjected to maltreatment. ....

Farmers, residents hold rally against Lahore’s Ravi project

LAHORE: A large number of farmers, residents and industrialists affected by Ravi Riverfront Project staged a protest at Shahdara Chowk here on Monday.
The protesters blocked the main interchange causing a traffic jam for hours on various city roads. Following the traffic jam, CTO visited the Ravi Bridge and passed directions to his team to divert the traffic.
The protesters called the Ravi Riverfront project a robbery of public rights and termed it the death of farmers and area residents. They also chanted slogans against the Punjab government and the Rive Urban Development Authority (RUDA). They were also displaying banners and placards against the project. Addressing the gathering, Mian Mustafa Rashid, convener of Farmers and Victims Committee, alleged that the government had made people fool regarding this project and showed them false dreams at an inauguration ceremony ....
