JALPAIGURI: Two Trinamool Congress workers and a BJP supporter were killed since Tuesday night as political clashes were reported from across the state.
Trinamool worker Sahinur Rahman (33), who left home following a call on Tuesday night, was found trussed up and dead at Chilakhana in Natabari, Cooch Behar, on Wednesday, said party leader and former minister Rabindranath Ghosh.
The leader accused BJP of murder, a charge denied by the latter. Police are scanning Rahman’s call records for a headway in the case.
At Mathura in Alipurduar, Trinamool booth worker Dipak Roy was attacked with sharp weapons when he was on his way home from a wedding on Tuesday night. ....

Two Trinamul Congress leaders were killed in north Bengal on Tuesday night as the spate of violence following the counting of votes continued unabated in the region.
Deepak Roy, 32, a vice-president of the Trinamul Youth Congress’s Alipurduar 1 block unit and a resident of Mathura, was killed when he was returning home from a wedding party.
When a car carrying Roy and five of his friends reached near a stone crushing unit around 11.30pm, they found that the road had been blocked with a tractor. Before Deepak and his friends could gauge what was happening, men carrying weapons circled the car and attacked them. ....

KOLKATA: Though the BJP failed to dislodge Mamata Banerjee from power, the saffron party managed to weather the TMC storm emerging triumphant in 25 of 42 constituencies in six districts of the region in the high- octane assembly elections.
Nevertheless, the result was below BJPs impressive performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when the saffron camp was ahead in 31 assembly segments in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur. ....

New Delhi, May 4 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his anguish and concern over West Bengal post poll violence in a telephonic conversation with state Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, asking him to restore law and order.
In a tweet, Dhankhar informed that the Prime Minister called him to take stock of alarmingly worrisome law and order situation in the state where reports of arson and violence came from parts of the state on Sunday evening even as trends and results of the Assembly election were pouring in. ....
