Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], May 13 (ANI): Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Thursday interacted with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Director Prof. Govindan Rangarajan to seek premier science institute s support in tackling the second wave of the COVID-19 across the state.
According to the professor, various researches are being carried out by the scientists at IISc which include designing a more efficient oxygen concentrator and also a vaccine for COVID-19 that can be stored at room temperature upto 30 degree Celsius.
He informed that IISc has developed an oxygen concentrator of 10 LPM capacity which is being tested for its clinical validation at Bangalore Medical College, as per an official release. ....

The CM told the media on Tuesday after an emergency Cabinet meeting to take stock of the
Covid situation that to tide over the shortage of oxygen, one of the proposals was to procure all the oxygen manufactured in the State to meet the growing demands of the hospitals. “I have already discussed the issue and am hoping for a favourable reply soon,” Yediyurappa said. The State Cabinet has also approved a decision to procure 5 lakh Remdesivir doses and 1 lakh oxygen concentrators from abroad. With the COVID-19 pandemic spinning out of control and availability of beds becoming a challenge during this second wave, doctors in private hospitals are discharging patients on the fourth or fifth day if they develop clinical stability.
This is different from last year when there were specific norms on when a patient should be discharged.
V. Ravi, member of the State’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and nodal officer for genomic confirmation of SARS-CoV-2 in Karnataka, said discharging patients soon after they develop clinical stability is essential so that beds are released for others who are in dire need of hospitalisation. ....
