Emergency Operations Centre is keeping an eye on a weather
system expected to bring rain to Rai Valley, the Awatere
Valley and the Marlborough Sounds from the early hours of
Monday morning until early evening. The MetService advises
that the period of rain, with some heavy falls possible, is
likely to total 40 to 70mm with peak rates of 5 to
10mm/h.

More heavy rain forecast for flood-stricken areas overnight

The MetService is forecasting up to 150mm of rain about the ranges in Westland south of Otira, while up to 100mm is expected nearer the coast overnight through until midday tomorrow.
There is also a heavy rain warning out for Nelson northwest of Motueka with up to 140mm expected about the ranges and up to 80mm elsewhere.
The MetService is warning that the rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly and surface flooding and slips are also possible.

Nelson and Westport are both now accessible by the Lewis
Pass and Springs Junction to the south and east, says Waka
Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, following the extensive flooding
of recent days.
“We do need road users to understand
that reopening the highway does not mean it is back to what
it was last week,” says Tresca Forrester, Waka Kotahi
