Kid goat leaves Golden Bay stormwater drain after four days

The kid that spent four days in the drain is white and appears no worse for wear, according to her owner. (File photograph)
The drama began last Tuesday after the kid went through the drain, which was estimated to be about 200m long.
“It went into the pipe for some reason and went through to the other side at one point,” Clare Harvey-Smith said at the time. “When it saw people, it rushed back into the pipe [and stayed].”
Crew members from the Takaka Volunteer Fire Brigade, with experience of animal rescues, spent about an hour last Tuesday evening trying to get the kid out. However, it did not budge even in response to a squirt from a firefighter’s hose. ....

Kid goat stubbornly stays in stormwater drain at Golden Bay

Harvey-Smith had managed to slide a crook inside the drain, which he hoped to be able to manoeuvre behind the animal if it came a little further forward – perhaps enticed by more willow titbits.
Crew members from the Takaka Volunteer Fire Brigade tried unsuccessfully on Tuesday evening to move the kid, which was then an estimated 70m into the drain. However, it did not budge even in response to a squirt from a firefighter’s hose. ....
