Missing Vibank windmill turns up

Indian Head RCMP says a historic windmill that was believed to be stolen was not stolen at all.
The 41-foot tall, century-old steel windmill went missing from a farm in Vibank sometime between May 16 and 19. After RCMP sent out a request for information regarding this case, the Indian Head detachment received three tips, which helped solve the mystery.
“The missing windmill wasn’t stolen at all. It was the victim of a non-criminal misunderstanding and all parties involved are working toward getting it to its rightful home,” reads a statement from Saskatchewan RCMP on Wednesday. ....

Regina City Council meets Wednesday afternoon with one item on the agenda seeing the old Costco building in Regina’s east end being turned into a car lot.
The planning commission has recommended that the application be approved meaning a Regina Auto Gallery dealership would take over the building and land around it.
The building on University Park Drive, just off Victoria Avenue, has been vacant since a new Costco opened a few kilometers east on Anaquod Road a couple of years ago.
The proposed dealership is 15,410 square metres in size, which includes 11,010 square metres of indoor retail space and 4,400 square metres of outdoor retail space. ....

Vigil to be held at Sask. Legislature for London Ontario family killed in hate motivated attack

Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. a special vigil will be held at the Saskatchewan Legislature by Regina’s Muslim community for the family of five in London Ontario, who were the victims of a vicious attack, in what police believe was simply because of their faith.
The family was out for a walk Sunday night when a 20-year-old man ran his truck off the road and onto the sidewalk hitting the family, killing four of them.
The only survivor was nine-year-old Fayez Afzaal, his grandmother, 74-year-old Talat Afzaal, 46-year-old father Salman Afzaal, 44-year-old mother Madiha and 15-year-old sister Yumna, were all killed, in what police are calling a hate motivated attack. ....

Construction underway on south Regina joint-use school facility

Construction has begun on a new joint use school facility to replace Argyle School and Ecole St. Pius X elementary schools in Regina.
The facility will feature a two storey structure for Argyle School and a three storey side for St. Pius X School. The province said each school will be able to accommodate 400 students, but will have an expandable capacity of 500 with the addition of relocatable classrooms.
“The two new elementary schools will be connected through both a common area and a wide corridor that will run between the two schools’ gyms,” the government said in a news release. ....

NDP call on Sask. government to apologize for role in Île-à-la-Crosse, Timber Bay residential schools

The Saskatchewan New Democrats are pushing for Truth and Reconciliation for survivors of the former Île-à-la-Crosse and Timber Bay residential schools in northern Saskatchewan.
On Wednesday, NDP Leader Ryan Meili sent a letter to Premier Scott Moe calling on the provincial government to apologize for and take ownership of its role in “the damage caused to First Nations and Métis people at these institutions.”
The official opposition notes that the Île-à-la-Crosse and Timber Bay residential schools were not included in the federal Indian Residential School Settlement process as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Meili said on Wednesday that these facilities were funded by both the federal and Saskatchewan governments. ....
