Mechanical engineering firm SVI says it will now offer a bullet-resistant Volkswagen Amarok in South Africa.
SVI said that the Amarok boasts 190 kW of power and 580 Nm of torque, with armour available in two different levels.
This will include SVI B4 handgun protection level armour, as well as B6 armoured protection which is capable of stopping bullets fired from assault rifles including AK47.
SVI said that the conversion entails stripping the interior to the bare metal and meticulously building the vehicle up as an armoured unit.
Special steel armoured plates and composite materials are used for the body and 38 mm thick armoured glass replaced the original glazing. ....

Less than two weeks after the official SVI-armoured Ford Ranger launch event, an order for 10 armoured Rangers has been received. Special Vehicle Industries (SVI) Engineering partnered with Ford to offer OEM-approved armour on Ranger bakkies.
According to Nicol Louw, business development manager at SVI, the company has been inundated with enquiries since the launch event. This points to the urgent need in South Africa for factory-backed armoured bakkies, SVI said. Another enabler is that the armoured Ranger can be purchased through Ford Credit which makes it attractive for both individual and fleet buyers. ....

Ford on Thursday announced that it is now offering customers the option of ordering new Ranger bakkies with armour protection - a first for any original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in SA. To make this possible Ford has partnered with local vehicle armouring specialists, SVI Engineering - a company with 17 years industry experience.
Two levels of armoured protection are on offer across all Ranger models, powertrains and derivatives. The first is the B4 armoured specification that offers occupants protection against hand-thrown projectiles such as bricks and handgun calibres up to a .44 Magnum.
