MARTINSBURG — This is the fifth year that Patrolman Mike Jones of the Martinsburg Police Department has surprised several drivers and their families with Christmas gifts during traffic stops around this time of year. Handing out these gifts allows Jones to lighten the mood for the holiday.
According to Jones, usually on a day he is not scheduled to work, he has been giving his time to reach his goal of giving out at least 15 gifts this year before Christmas.
Jones uses his own money to purchase Christmas gifts for children and randomly distributes them to families he sees and receives donations from businesses and community members. Jones said he enjoys talking to the kids and teasing the parents a little bit. ....
