Pharmacy-focused IT provider Fred IT uses Twilio to spin up e-prescription solution

Pharmacy specialist IT solutions provider platform Fred IT has created an electronic prescription solution using Twilio’s Programmable Messaging API and Twilio Studio.
e-Prescriptions allow patients who have registered for My Script List (MySL) to order their prescriptions with their local pharmacy via WhatsApp.
In order to legalise electronic prescriptions, the Melbourne-based provider needed to build a new system, which would usually take up to six months, it said in a release about the project.
To streamline the process, it implemented Twilio’s Programmable Messaging API, reducing the time from concept to market to eight weeks.
The release outlined that Fred IT chose Twilio as its solution was programmable rather than out-of-the-box. This allowed Fred IT to develop the system in the way that it needed to meet safety requirements. ....

Fred IT, an IT solutions provider for the pharmacy industry, has recently launched its active script list that combines a patient s prescriptions in one digital list. It was developed in partnership with two prescription exchange services, eRx Script Exchange and MediSecure.
The Health department-conformant My Script List was first rolled out in pharmacies in Tasmania. It will be introduced in other states and territories by end May.

Just as big uptake of telehealth marked the first quarter of the eHealth year in Australia, developments in electronic prescribing increased in pace in the second. As part of a range of measures to help get medications to patients quickly and safely, the federal government announced it would fast-track the roll out of electronic prescribing, having made the legislative changes allowing eScripts as a legal alternative to paper late last year.
In March, the Department of Health proposed a development sprint with prescribing and dispensing software vendors to get the majority of GPs and pharmacies with the capability within eight weeks.
