Rattler Railway Company Chair Ian McNicol said Mr Cartwright’s strong local connections and experience would add considerably to the RRC Board. “John brings to the board almost three decades of experience in the Gympie community and his deep understanding and connection with so many aspects of the local region will prove invaluable as we further develop the Rattler’s capacity to support and benefit the wider Gympie community,” Mr McNicol said. “With the Rattler being a volunteer-based organisation, John’s long record of working as a volunteer director in community organisations gives him valuable insights into the Rattler working model and we look forward to benefiting from his input to the Board over the next few years.” ....
Fifteen years of tourism experience has hopped on board the Mary Valley Rattler with the appointment of a Sunshine Coast industry stalwart to the board. Julie Cullen has been appointed to the heritage train’s board in a move RRC chairman Ian McNicol said will help widen the market for the Rattler. Ms Cullen is the owner advice business Tourism Tap, and has previously been the general manager of Underwater World and the Cairns Aquarium. THE Mary Valley Rattler has weathered the COVID storm to record its first operational surplus since returning to the tracks. The Rattler’s financial report for 2019-20 has revealed the heritage train made $221,000 throughout the financial year, a significant turnaround from the $549,000 deficit recorded the year before. A big part of this jump was thanks to a $124,000 increase in income from ticket sales, which topped $1.05m for the year. A significant $370,000 came from “other income”. Of this, $141,000 came from JobKeeper, while another including $174,000 was accounted in contributed assets, $23,000 in rental income and $13,000 from charitable income and fundraising. The surplus has reduced the Rattler Railway Company’s net liability position to $663,000, from $884,000. ....
ANOTHER month, another question about the Rattler. Last week s ATO ruling that the council didn t own the heritage train s governing body has raised yet more questions about what the public has been historically told about the train it has poured millions of dollars into. And you don t have to look far to find the council claiming otherwise. In the infamous 2016 business case the council identified the Rattler Railway company as one of two companies wholly owned and underwritten by the GRC . The council’s business case for the train’s return identified the RRC as “wholly owned” by the council. The ATO’s ruling last week says otherwise. ....
