Lagos #EndSARS panel: Absence of police lawyers stall proceedings
The petitions of seven families against the Nigerian Police the Federal Special Anti-Robbery unit had been slated for hearing on Friday.

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on police brutality failed to sit Friday following the absence of lawyers representing the police.
The sitting – the 79th since the panel begin last year -was scheduled to hear petitions from seven families against the Nigerian Police and the Federal Special Anti-Robbery unit of the police.
The petitioners include the family of late Ibrahim Olojede, the family of late Gregory Egwu, Obochi Micheal Owoicho, Mukaila Shobukola, Idris Saula, Segun Ishola, and the family of late Okoronkwo Sylvester Ogbonnaya. ....

ANALYSIS: #EndSARS: How Lagos Judicial Panel has fared in six months
A total number of 235 petitions were received by the panel between October to December 2020.
On October 19, 2020, the Lagos state government set up a nine-man
Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate cases of brutality and human rights violations perpetrated by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force and the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The panel was set up as a response to one of the demands of youth during the #EndSARS protests, which is investigating cases of police brutality and providing restitution to the victims.
While inaugurating the panel, the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said it was “in line with the resolution of the National Economic Council on October 15, 2020, chaired by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.” ....

Stiff Resistance against Second Wave of #EndSARS Protest


Chiemelie Ezeobi reports that the second wave of the #EndSARS protest was met with stiff resistance from the police in Lagos as the protesters, under the aegis of #OccupyLekkiTollgate stormed the street to register their grouse about the decision of the judicial panel to reopen the Lekki Tollgate
Last week Saturday, the second wave of the #EndSARS protest began in Lagos under the auspices of #OccupyLekkiTollGate, with more than 40 protesters arrested and dehumanised by police operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command.

Although the sobriquet #EndSARS did not start recently, it gained momentum during last year’s nationwide protests against the now disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and police brutality in general.
