Lagos launches 500 First and Last Mile buses as alternative to Okada

The launch of the First and Last Mile (FLM) Bus Scheme today is an important milestone in our quest to achieving the intermodal transport system which gives our teeming population the choices they deserve, reducing congestion and journey times, and improving the quality of life. It is also in fulfilment of one of the measures we promised as a solution to the security situation discussed at our recent Security Stakeholders’ Town Hall Meeting.
“As a responsible Government, we are launching this scheme in response to two major issues. One is the alarming statistics of fatal accidents recorded from the operations of Okadas in Lagos between 2016 and 2019, and the use of Okadas for the facilitation of crime across the metropolis. The goal is the full implementation of a safer and more efficient alternative transport solution that takes out the need for Okadas and replaces them with safer buses that will help us curb incidents of Okada-related accidents, c ....

CCECC starts construction of second light rail project in Lagos

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) has started the construction of the first phase of Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line project in Lagos, Nigeria. It is the second light rail project that the company has implemented in Lagos State, after the LRMT Blue Line project.
In mid-April Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 37-kilometre Red Line, which will run between Agbado and Marina, moving over one million commuters daily.
The first phase of the project, which will partially run on an existing rail track being upgraded as part of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway Modernization Project, will comprise eight stations and should be operational by the last quarter of 2022. ....

Lagos commences construction of rail line from Agbado to Marina

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it has commenced work on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line project from Agbado to Marina.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed this during the flag-off ceremony of a 37km rail route in Ikeja on Thursday.
Sanwo-Olu said the project would be implemented in two phases.
”We project that the Red Line would move its first passenger in the fourth quarter of 2022.
”In addition, we are simultaneously working on bringing the first phase of our Blue Line to passenger operation, projecting that it would be in operation by the fourth quarter of 2022,” he said. ....
