A case has been registered against 400 unidentified men for breaking one of the gates of the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in Sehwan
Thursday evening.
At least 16 people were reportedly injured after devotees, from across the country, stormed the shrine. The police baton-charged them, and they responded by pelting stones at them.
The devotees said that they have come to attend the 769th urs of the Sufi saint. The urs was supposed to start on April 1 evening but was cancelled after the Sindh government decided to close all shrines because of rising coronavirus metrics. Hundreds of devotees had, however, already arrived in Sindh. ....

DADU: Around 40 devotees and seven policemen were injured when they clashed at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan on Thursday evening.
A few days back, the Sindh government had announced closure of all shrines in the province as part of measures to control Covid-19 pandemic. However, several thousand devotees had already arrived in Sehwan to take part in the 769th urs of the great Sufi saint that was to start on Thursday evening.
Ignoring the official announcement about the shrine’s closure, hundreds of devotees most of whom had come from outside Sindh and were staying in Sehwan and neighbouring towns started assembling outside the closed gates of the shrine during the day. Officers and personnel of the Jamshoro police, deployed around the shrine, kept telling the devotees to turn away as there was no chance to open the shrine. ....

SEHWAN: The Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, took control of the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in the aftermath of serious clashes between the police and devotees over the closure of the shrine on Thursday, by the provincial government as part of the Covid-19 SOPs. The violent clashes left scores injured and several motorcycles burnt.
A large number of devotees visited the shrine of Sufi saint Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. The zeal mounts fervently as the annual Urs is held from 18-20 Shaban. The devotees, who arrived from Punjab to attend the Urs, turned violent after they were prevented from entering the shrine for the 769th annual Urs celebrations due to Covid-19 restrictions. The Sindh government had announced closure of all shrines, public places, eateries, in the province for 10 days. It also cancelled the annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. ....
