Roll out the robots | Dandenong Star Journal

A science-and-technology centre equipped with rolling robots has been launched at Dandenong South Primary School.
Students drove the Sphero BOLT robots through obstacle courses, and staged science experiments during the opening of the Discovery Centre on 30 March.
They will practise skills such as basic coding using the robots, as well as conduct investigations in the centre.
Dandenong South Primary principal Leonie Fitzgerald said the aim was to foster critical and design thinking, creativity and collaboration.
“Fostering these skills in students at our school, who come from predominantly low socio-economic backgrounds, has a profound impact on their future career pathways.” ....

When Mission Australia needed new logos for its Communities for Children program, the organisation knew exactly where to turn: to the children who are so pivotal to its work.
In partnership with the City of Greater Dandenong Children’s Advisory Group, Mission Australia conducted an artwork contest for more than 30 children to come up with new logos that represented the four key priority areas of Communities for Children (CfC).
The activity also aimed to nurture and support the confidence of local children, and assist children to learn key skills to communicate with others.
Mission Australia’s Communities for Children is an early intervention and prevention program aimed at improving the development, health and wellbeing of children aged 12 and under by addressing local needs and encouraging community participation. ....

A middle-aged couple has welcomed triplets into the world after four heartbreaking miscarriages and spending roughly US$15,000 (11,300 pound sterlings) on IVF.
Leonie Fitzgerald, a business owner from Brisbane, Australia, became a mom to three perfect girls at the ripe age of 44. She refused to give up hope despite being diagnosed with low progesterone, which led to four devastating miscarriages.
But Leonie and her husband, Peter, 51, took a leap of faith and tried for a baby one more time with the help of IVF in January 2020.
