WHMI 93.5 Local News : Prosecutor's Office Marks National Crime Victims' Rights Week

It’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office is raising awareness for services they provide for survivors.
2021 marks the 40th anniversary of the event, with this year’s theme being “Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities.” Locally, Crime Victims’’ Rights Week is traditionally celebrated with a luncheon and awards ceremony that highlights champions of the cause. Due to the pandemic, this is the second straight year that that won’t be viable.
However, that’s not stopping the Prosecutor’s Office from spreading the word on the help they provide. Janice Carpenter is a Victim Advocate for the office and said they have come up with outside-of-the-box ideas like placemats for restaurants that information about local agencies that assist victims. WHMI 93.5 Local News : Annual Count Gives Snapshot Of Local Homeless

Several local agencies participated in a count to help determine just how many people are without a home when the weather is its roughest.
The Livingston County Homeless Continuum of Care Committee is reporting a Point-in-Time (PIT) count of 44 individuals in shelters experiencing homelessness during the coldest month of the year. The PIT count takes place nationwide annually on the last Wednesday of January and is required for homelessness programs that are funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The count took place last Wednesday, between 10am and midnight, and included 7 teams with 14 volunteers from the United Way, the Salvation Army, St. Vincent DePaul, the Livingston Family Center, and the Connection Youth Services, Severe Weather Network, OLHSA, and Livingston County Catholic Charities. Two unsheltered individuals were also found during the time frame ....
