Motion to save Lennox pavilion fails – The Echo

The meeting began with a deputation from Brad Pollard of the Lennox Chamber of Commerce, who argued for the demolition of the pavilion. He said 83% of local businesses wanted it removed, and questioned why more time and money should be spent revisiting the issue.
‘Keeping the shed is losing the vision,’ he said.
Robyn Hargrave from the Lennox Head Heritage Committee spoke passionately in favour of retaining the building, which she said was one of a handful of structures remaining from Lennox’s early era.
She said the Lennox Village Vision concept for the area would remove views from the street to the beach, not open them up, and the existing building provided all-weather shelter in the exposed park for families, children and people waiting for buses. ....

A new attempt will be raised before Ballina Shire Council this week to save the Lennox Head pavilion from demolition.
A notice of motion by Cr Eoin Johnston will try to amend the Lennox Village Vision Concept Plan.
The motion aims to retain the weather shed / pavilion in Lennox Park due to its historical significance and cultural value within the local community, according to council documents.
Cr Johnston said in his submission to council that the pavilion was built in 1945 and has been used by thousands of people over the years for many reasons.
It has protected belongings from the rain, sheltered families from the heat and hosted many a late night chat among friends, he said. ....

'Loved to death': Traffic changes will help at Lennox Head

Lennox Chamber of Commerce s treasurer Brad Pollard welcomed the changes.
There is a lot of traffic coming down the hill from Byron Street, also from Allens Parade, and it s been a long-held view that traffic coming down that hill is at a speed that can be quite dangerous, he said.
The idea is to make it easier for people to get in and out of Allens Parade, but also slow the traffic a bit more before they hit the main street.
The trial of the 30km/h speed limit is a speed that we are not unfamiliar with.
Lennox is a popular place to live, it s natural that people would want to move here, and these measures are aimed at striking the right balance between vehicular amenity versus people s amenities, and making it safe for people to cross the street in town. ....
