Lloydminster Firefighters head north to battle Saskatchewan wildfires SHARE ON: Six Lloydminster firefighters are headed north to battle blazes in the Meadow Lake and Buffalo Narrows areas. The firefighters were requested for the area through a Government of Saskatchewan mutual aid program. The team left Lloydminster on Friday morning and their deployment will last seven days, with the possibility of an extension. “The deployment of personnel and equipment does not reduce or impact the Lloydminster Fire Services’ ability to respond to incidents in our community. We’ll continue to provide the high standard of emergency response the community expects,” says Leigh Sawicki, Fire Chief, Lloydminster Fire Services. ....
Ground broken on new Lloydminster Fire Hall SHARE ON: Shovels are in the dirt, and construction on the new Lloydminster Fire Hall has begun. The new location for Fire Hall #1 will be at 3752-47 Street, built on an area of City-owned land that was earmarked as having quicker access to major roads, having lands allowing for expansion and causing fewer noise complaints. It will replace the existing hall when it is finished. A virtual groundbreaking ceremony was held online on April 21st, with Mayor Gerald Aalbers, Fire Chief Leigh Sawicki and Chandos Construction Senior Project Manager Michael Lewis. Chandos, an Edmonton construction company, will be coordinating on the project with their Red Deer offices. ....
Lloydminster Fire Department responded to fewer fires and more alarms in 2020 SHARE ON: Lloydminster Fire Department. (106.1 The Goat.) While many industries and services were forced to slow down during the pandemic, the Lloydminster Fire Department saw an increase in activity. City council was presented with the annual Fire Services Report detailing the department’s activity in 2020 which showed a 13 per cent jump in calls from 2019. Fire Chief Leigh Sawicki says overall there were fewer significant building fires in 2020, however the department did see an increase in vehicle fires. Crews responded to 60 fires in the city which is down by 10 when compared to 2019. This count includes building, vehicle, grass and garbage fires. ....
