Uttarakhand Floods: 23 Limbs Recovered in Addition to 58 Bodies

DEHRADUN â The rescuers have recovered 23 limbs in addition to 58 bodies so far after the February 7 deluge in Uttarakhandâs Chamoli district.
Out of this, the last rites of 55 bodies and 20 limbs have been performed after collecting DNA samples, said DIG Nilesh Anand Bharne, who is also the spokesman of the state police.
But the police believe that all these 20 limbs do not belong to 20 persons separately, which means that one or more than two limbs may belong to one person.
Bharne also did not rule out this possibility when enquired. âIt is possible that two limbs belonged to one person,â he said. ....

Rishiganga hydro project washed away by glacier burst in Uttarakhand

A 13.2 MW small hydro project on the Rishiganga river was swept away in the glacier burst in Uttarakhand on Sunday, but there is no danger of floods in the downstream areas as the water level has been contained.
This was conveyed to the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, at an emergency meeting held here on Sunday evening.
The NCMC was also informed thatpeople trapped in a hydro project tunnel were rescued by the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), whileefforts are on to rescue those trapped in another tunnel. The operation is being coordinated by the Army and the ITBP, an official spokesperson said. ....

BJP leader Uma Bharti Sunday said the Uttarakhand flood tragedy triggered by a glacier burst is a matter of concern as well as a warning, and added that as a minister she had spoken against having any power project on the Ganga and its major tributaries.
Bharti was the minister of water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation during the first term of the Modi government.
In a series of tweets in Hindi, she said the glacier breaking off had damaged a power project, triggering the massive crisis.
This tragedy that has happened in Rishi Ganga in the Himalayas is a matter of concerns as well as a warning, she said. ....
