Green light for Tweed leg of Northern Rivers Rail Trail

A tender has been awarded for the Tweed leg of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
The next step in the Tweed leg of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail will move forward after Councillors voted overnight to award an $11.8 million contract to one of 4 preferred tenderers.
Councillors agreed to support the recommendation of Council officers to award the contract to a complying tender bid from Hazell Bros (Qld) Pty Ltd following a rigorous tendering process.
The decision was made in a confidential hearing following legal advice that was sought after a threat of legal action by a third party group. Opponents had called for the rail trail to be built off-formation – or alongside the existing track infrastructure. ....

Survey reveals residents' solutions to traffic woes

Palmwoods residents have shared their ideas for how to solve the hinterland townâs road safety concerns.
Excessive speed, traffic banked up for kilometres, dangerous intersections and illegal U-turns were just some of the issues they have raised.
Sunshine Coast Daily s Pave the way for Palmwoods campaign.
The community survey sought to understand residentsâ views on several issues with questions about the regionâs speed limit, what their concerns were and any potential solutions.
There were 72 responses received with 97.2 per cent agreeing there was a definite traffic issue in Palmwoods.

Haulage crossings will be constructed on the east side of Gympie within weeks.
Wide Bay MP Llew O Brien said construction of the first crossings on the local road network would begin around East Deep Creek in early February, which will provide access for machinery and materials and will significantly reduce the number of construction vehicles on local roads.
When completed, the crossings will reduce disruption for local road users, and they re a welcome step forward in the much-needed four-lane Gympie Bypass.
Mr O Brien said the roadworks would include the construction of temporary road pavements, installing rumble grids within the work areas, and installing signage for traffic management. ....
