City continues to repair water main break on N. Jefferson Circle

Officials with the city of Oak Ridge closed North Jefferson Circle between Latimer Road and Jefferson Avenue Monday morning because of a water main break. 
The Oak Ridge Police Department announced it in a Nixel alert Monday. City of Oak Ridge Public Works Director Shira McWaters said the area was still closed as of Monday afternoon and crews were working on repairing the main.
“We don’t know the cause, but surmise that it is due to the recent cold weather,” she said. “Significant weather changes can impact buried infrastructure. This is true nationwide. For Oak Ridge, we do experience an increase in water main breaks associated with freeze/thaw cycles that cause soils to move around the buried pipe and cause it to break.” ....
