Bird flu: Culling begins, nearly 75k expected to be killed | Ludhiana News

Ludhiana: As a bird flu case was reported from a poultry farm in Qila Raipur area, the authorities on Sunday morning started culling birds at the farm. Nearly 75,000 birds are expected to be culled in a week-long process. The authorities are also screening the area of about 10-km radius to prevent further infection.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Khanna Sakatar Singh Bal, chairman of the panel formed by deputy commissioner (DC) to oversee culling of birds and containment operations, said the culling process started on Sunday morning and so far there were no other cases in the other poultry farms in the area. ....

Suspected case of bird flu reported in Punjab's Dera Bassi

Mohali, January 15
The district administration here on Friday said a suspected case of bird flu from the area had been forwarded to the Northern Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Jalandhar from where it is being sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, for further investigation.
The officials said the final report is still awaited.
NRDDL, Jalandhar, Joint Director, Mohinder Pal Singh said, Samples from Alpha Poultry Farm (layer) with 55,000 livestock and Royal Poultry Farm (layer) with 60,000 livestock in Behra village of Dera Bassi have been found suspect and sent to the Bhopal laboratory for confirmation. ....

Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], January 9 (ANI): At a time when avian influenza has been detected in several states, over four lakh chickens have died in Haryana in the last month, JP Dalal, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Fisheries Minister of Haryana said on Saturday.
Samples from two poultry farms in Haryana have tested positive for H5N8 (Bird Flu), Dalal said. He added that as per the guidelines, all birds within a 1 km radius of where the birds tested positive will be culled and buried. ....
