Plaquemine officials break ground on riverfront recreational trail

The City of Plaquemine held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Plaquemine Riverfront Recreational Trail on June 22 at the Plaquemine Lock Historic Site.
Construction of Phases 1 and 2 will begin in July and will include the trailhead adjacent to the Lock site and extension of the trail to the North Plaquemine Park.
“It’s going to be a very nice amenity,” Plaquemine Mayor Edwin Reeves Jr. said. “The view on the river these days is absolutely gorgeous, and when we polled everyone about what they wanted for the city, they said they wanted more areas for recreation and walking.
“This is another amenity and another big plus for the people of our city,” he said. ....

City of Plaquemine accepts bid on Phases 1 and 2 of riverfront trail

The Plaquemine Board of Selectmen accepted the low bid of Comeaux Brothers Construction for construction to begin on Phases 1 and 2 of the Plaquemine Riverfront Recreational Trail at a special meeting May 26. Work is expected to begin in late June. ....

Plaquemine Mayor Ed Reeves looks to continue improvement projects

Work to bring several community improvement projects to fruition will top the priority list for Plaquemine Mayor Edwin “Ed” Reeves, who began his second term in office last week.
Improvement to the parks, which began last year, will continue in 2021, but he also has sights on two other projects that will give a fresh look to the city.
Work will move forward on the cooperative endeavor between the city and the Atchafalaya Board for work on a walking/biking trail on the levee-top along the Mississippi River.
Phase 1 and 2 of the project, set to go up for bids this year, include the trailhead adjacent to the Plaquemine Lock Historic Site, with ramps and handrails from the parking lot of the Lock site to the top of the levee, a stamped concrete trail at the trailhead, and the extension of an asphalt trail to the North Plaquemine Park.
