HALLOWELL Safety concerns about the track at Hall-Dale High School had Simmons Fund committee members discussing its replacement at their meeting Tuesday night.
The track is the committee’s main focus, but it is still in the planning process. Hall-Dale Principal Mark Tinkham said the project could take 12-16 months from the time an architect looks at the field, to the time a final design and the track are put into place. The committee also discussed installing new LED lights, as well. ....

HALLOWELL Despite municipal officials urging additional cuts to the proposed 2021-2022 budget, the Regional School Unit 2 school board’s Finance Committee is not going to do so.
The full school board will consider approving it Thursday night, before sending it on to residents of the district to vote on June 8.
Monday night, a presentation to municipal officials resulted in concern that the school spending would mean the member towns and city would have to make significant cuts to their municipal budgets. On Tuesday, the Finance Committee kept its stance that its responsibility was to fund the school district, not worry about how municipal governments would manage their spending plans. ....

Regional School Unit 2 was able to trim its budget by nearly $100,000, but towns are still seeing a steep increase in their local shares.

HALLOWELL Regional School District 2 was able to cut nearly $100,000 from next year’s school budget, but the overall increase to the budget is still an issue, according to Hallowell Mayor George Lapointe.
The district found there would be no increase in insurance costs, so it reduced that spending line by $145,000. But the board agreed to changes in job descriptions for two positions, increasing duties and salaries, which resulted in an addition of $38,000. ....
