Bauchi Assembly orders re-arrest of man freed after rape of seven-year-old girl

Members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly have lamented that a 45-year-old man, who was arrested and handed over to the police for allegedly defiling a seven-year child, was bailed by some influential persons.
The incident reportedly happened at Faggo in the Shira Local Government Area of the state.
The member representing Shira Constituency in the Assembly, Bello Shira, disclosed this during plenary on Tuesday, while speaking under matters of urgent public importance.
He informed the House that the “terrible and devastating incident” happened in Faggo, adding that immediately the culprit was released on bail; he ran away and was nowhere to be found.

Ondo Assembly holds public hearing on bill against person, gender based violence

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday held a Public Hearing on a bill for a law to eliminate violence in private and public life.
The bill prohibits all forms of violence against persons and provides for maximum and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders and other related matters.
Declaring the public hearing open, Mr Bamidele Oloyelogun, the Speaker of the House, said that the bill was meant to prevent all forms of gender based violence in the state.
Oloyelogun urged the stakeholders at the hearing to submit their memoranda and promised that their views and opinions would be considered.

As youths are said to be national assets and leaders of tomorrow but are cramped with various challenges leading to various agitations including the recent EndSARS protest in order to have their place and space in national development and governance, ActionAid Nigeria, Friday, threw weight behind the Nasarawa State Youth Development Commission Bill sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Nehemiah Dandaura.
