Terre Haute estate donates $1.5 million to four local businesses.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAVW) – The Wabash Valley Community Foundation distributed money from the J. Morton & June K. Swango Fund to various organizations at June Swango’s request.
June Swango passed away in April of 2019, but her estate left behind a 1.5 million dollar bequest.
A bequest, a provision in a will to make charitable donations, allowed Swango to choose the business close to her to donate to.
Those four recipients of the money include Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department, TREES Inc., Vigo County Historical Society and Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department.
Each organization received an installment of $12,000 this week. ....

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) This summer, one local organization will be trying to raise $30,000 to help kids living in Vigo and Clay County.
Starting in June is the Y.M.C.A.’s Be A Change Maker 4 Kids campaign. This summer long campaign aims to support programs hosted by the Y, including after school activities, summer camp, or help reduce monthly membership costs for kids.
“I think the one thing we saw a lot due to COVID-19 is the need for effective care programs for kids. As parents and essential employees are working, we want offer our services to their children or even to senior citizens,” Ryan Penrod, C.E.O. Y.M.C.A. of the Wabash Valley, said. ....
