Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern paid an evening visit to Labour MP Kiri Allan, who is fighting stage 3 cervical cancer in hospital.
The East Coast MP, who has been detailing her journey on social media, has told followers she ended her chemotherapy sessions this week and has now started brachytherapy, a new internal radiation treatment, involving a day-long procedure and some very gnarly needles .
Knowing she was nervous about the upcoming treatment sessions, Ardern visited Allan to offer some comfort, Allan told Facebook followers in a post yesterday evening. ....

LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid visited Mayo Hospital Corona Monitoring Unit on Wednesday to monitor performance of the unit. Present on the occasion were Consultant Professor Dr Asad Aslam Khan, Professor Dr Saqib Saeed, Medical Superintendent Dr Iftikhar and other officials. Professor Asad Aslam Khan and Dr Iftikhar gave briefing to the minister about reserved beds, ventilators and Oxygen availability.
Later, the minister visited Vaccination Centre at Sabzazar along with Secretary Primary and Secondary Healthcare (P&SH) Department Sarah Aslam and Commissioner Captain (r) Usman Younis. The minister said that the government was monitoring corona situation closely and continuously increasing the number of vaccination centres. In Punjab, 236 centres and in Lahore seven centres were functional, she mentioned. ....

Oranga Tamariki has paused home visits in Tamatea and Onekawa after two separate firearms incidents in three hours in Napier.
Emergency services were first called to Harold Holt Ave, Onekawa, about 6pm on Tuesday after reports of a firearm incident.
A male teenager sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Hawke s Bay Hospital. He was discharged on Wednesday morning.

HARIPUR: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt-Gen (R) Muzammil Hussain on Tuesday visited the site of Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project (T5) to oversee the preparations for the civil work.
The visit came in the wake of awarding the contract for civil work of the 1530 megawatts Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project (T5) last week.
He reviewed the preparedness level for starting construction work on the project scheduled to be commenced in July this year.
During the visit, Wapda chairman had a detailed round of Tunnel N0. 5, sites of the powerhouse and switchyard and intake of the powerhouse, where he was briefed about the mobilization of the contractor and timelines for the overall implementation of the project. ....

KUANTAN: Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has appealed to the public to follow Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) while celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
He said this year s Aidilfitri would be the second time it was celebrated in a situation where the world, the country and the state were still in the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic.
