The Inland Revenue Department is to pay millions of dollars to compensate more than 640,000 KiwiSaver members whose employer contributions were delayed in getting to their providers.
The problems were caused when the IRD moved
KiwiSaver to a new technology platform in April last year and there was a delay in passing on some employer contributions to people s KiwiSaver accounts.
IRD will pay out just over $6.6m, an average of just over $10 per person.

More small businesses will be eligible to take out interest-free loans under a government cashflow scheme, with $42m already claimed in Hawke s Bay alone.
Almost 2500 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the region have claimed funding under the Small Business Cashflow Loan scheme – making up 2 per cent of the loan recipients nationwide.
Small Business Minister Stuart Nash and Revenue Minister David Parker announced the Small Business Cashflow Loan scheme was to be extended for three years and the interest-free period for two years. ....

IRD faces huge financial shortfall after delay in transformation programme

But disruption from Covid-19 meant it put some of those changes on hold.
One part of this was called “organisational design” or “organisation change”. In an update to former Revenue Minister Stuart Nash from July, IRD warned this would be delayed as it was putting more resources into supporting IRD’s Covid-19 response. The paper said IRD did not want the “distraction of a consultation process” that organisation change would bring.
But IRD warned ministers that delaying the change “may have implications for Inland Revenue’s ability to realise the administrative savings”.
That is a bit of a problem for IRD’s finances. ....
