OUR Trader of the Week as we head out of April is a St John’s-based artist who is equally at ease drawing commissioned portraits or painting seascapes and landscapes in acrylic or oils. Penny Webb Art has been running in the city for three years and sells paintings, handmade jewellery and crafts as well as taking commissions and running fluid art workshops. Penny said: “My workshops are a lot of fun and often people come along for that telling me not to expect much as they have no artistic skills. “I’ve never had anyone leave yet who was not impressed with their own painting and chuffed to have something to put on the wall.” ....
Maria Griffiths has been running Fondant Fantasies from her Malvern base for three years. She is a home baker – registered, insured, and inspected – but with no shop, Maria works from home. She said: “I’m not formally trained but took up baking to reduce my stress levels from work, now cake decorating is my job. “Show-stopping, bespoke cakes that will never be forgotten. From elegant sugar flowers to hyper real animals, if you can imagine it – I can cake it.” And to show that she’ll tackle anything, Maria lists some of the more weird and wonderful cakes she’s been asked to produce: a sheep’s head, a spinning roulette wheel, a grease monkey “and a life-sized bust of Biggles for a Wing Commander in the RAF”. ....
THIS week’s Trader of the Week features not one but three Worcester artists. Yew Trees Artist Studios launched in August last year and provides a showcase for the works of Susan Birth, Richard Nicholls and Dan Holden. The business is based in Bevere, where and the three artists create and sell original artwork and printed art products. The studios and shared gallery space reopened this week (opening hours Tuesday-Saturday, 10am to 4pm), where as well as original artwork, visitors can buy from a range of printed art products including greeting cards, prints, coasters, etc. Susan said: “We enjoy working as a group of artists while also being able to showcase our work to visitors. ....
