Low oil fortunes: FG creates centre to cut cost


The inauguration of the NOGEC came at a time Nigeria and the rest of the world are raising concerns over depleting oil revenue and the breakthrough in alternative forms of energy, including renewable and solar energy.
To underscore the damage done to the Nigerian economy which is heavily reliant on oil, Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, in May 2020, announced that the national revenue target fell by N125.52 billion in the first quarter of 2020 to N940.91bn.
The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, hinted at this paradigm shift when in December 2020, at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) roundtable session, he said NNPC was putting measures in place to reduce the cost of crude oil production to create market for the country’s crude. ....

Kyari Commends Buhari's Non-Interference in NNPC Operations

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for giving the corporation’s management free-hand to deliver on its mandate, saying that he remains the only president that has never interfered in the operations of the Corporation.
Mallam Kyari stated this on Monday in Sokoto while delivering the Usmanu Danfodiyo University’s 2021 First Quarter Public Lecture Series titled, “Navigating Energy Transition and the Imperatives of University-Industry Collaboration.”
He said the current crop of NNPC Management was so privileged to have a President who never interfered in what the NNPC does as a Corporation. ....

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has said that because President Muhammadu Buhari never interferes in the affairs of the Corporation helped it deliver on its mandate, especially towards domestic gas utilisation.
Kyari stated this while delivering Usmanu Danfodiyo University’s 2021 First Quarter Public Lecture Series titled, “Navigating Energy Transition and the Imperatives of University-Industry Collaboration,” in Sokoto.
“That is very unprecedented, and it has gone a long way to help us deliver on our mandate, especially the drive towards domestic gas utilization,” Kyari stated.
He noted that the NNPC was Africa’s biggest national oil company which is already building on the convergence of new technologies and innovative business models, was set to play an important role in the future of energy. ....
