One person has been seriously injured following a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and car at 12.28pm.

SH2 Pekatahi Bridge daytime closure for three days

Those travelling on State Highway 2 between Awakeri and Taneatua from Monday to Wednesday this coming week are reminded to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys, due to a closure of the Pekatahi Bridge for maintenance works.
Due to the narrow width of the bridge, it needs to be closed to ensure this work can be carried out safely, says an NZTA spokesperson.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises the closure will be in place between 8.30am and 4.30pm each day from Monday July 12 to Wednesday July 14, while contractors are on site to replace a section of handrail that was recently damaged. ....

A team of technicians and researchers are embarking on a major project to update New Zealand’s Climate Normals that will take at least six months to complete.
Climate Normals are what scientists define as an average statistic based on a 30-year timespan. So when climatologists describe rainfall amounts as above normal or temperatures as below normal , they are currently comparing the figures to a 30-year average of data collected between 1981 and 2010. ....
SH2 near Opotiki blocked due to crash File photo. There has been a single vehicle crash on State Highway 2 between Awakeri and Opotiki. NZTA advise that due to the crash between Paerata Ridge Rd and Appleton Rd, SH2 is now blocked. Police were notified of the crash on SH2 at 10.50am and say that the driver has suffered moderate injuries. Motorists are cautioned to expect delays through this area and pass the scene with care. Expect experiments and explosions as the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics festival STEMFest returns for 2021.
The inaugural Tauranga STEM Festival (STEMFest) in 2019 attracted 3,500 visitors from across New Zealand.
The event also scooped the TECT Community Awards for Event Excellence for its innovation and creativity.
Now, after being cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the free, family-friendly festival returns on Sunday, October 3, in Tauranga’s Durham Street.
STEMFest organiser, registered charity STEM Wana Trust, hopes to attract 10,000 visitors in 2021 in its aim to engage and inspire a new generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. ....
