A stabbing incident at the low-barrier shelter Thursday night is “certainly unnerving,” but played no part in a decision by Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services to no longer operate the facility by May 1. It did, however, play a role in the agency announcing its decision Friday, CEO Mary Davis admits.

Despite a year marked by COVID-19, the North Bay Santa Fund “crushed our goal,” according to chair Scott Clark.
As of Tuesday, the fund stood at $166,000, and was expected to exceed $170,000 by the end of the day Wednesday.

The target, to purchase grocery items and Christmas presents for 600 families, including about 1,500 children, was $140,000.
In an earlier interview, Clark said the excess funds collected will be distributed among the North Bay Crisis Centre, the North Bay Food Bank and the Canadore College Food Bank. ....
