Seven bursaries to consider if you want to study law in South Africa

Whether you are entering into your first year and just beginning to learn about the legal systems that make up our country, or if you are wishing to study further, funding your degree is almost always a challenge.
We have collated a list of seven bursaries available for students who would like to study law, so that whether you are emulating Harvey Spector or Annalise Keating, funding is one problem you won t have.
1. The HKA Bursary South Africa

Students registered for LLB, BA Law or BComm Law are eligible for this bursary. To apply you need to be a South African citizen, be registered at a South African university, have already completed your first year of study, have maintained an average grade of 70% and up, and show a financial need. Chatsworth attorney behind bars after appealing conviction for theft

A Durban attorney who appealed a guilty conviction on a theft conviction and lost will now go to jail for five years.
Jayshree Baijnath, the owner of Baijnath and Partners in Chatsworth, was convicted for theft amounting to R644 989 in the Durban Regional Court on March 1, 2017.
At the time Baijnath was sentenced to six years, wholly suspended for five years.
A year later she was granted leave to appeal the decision.
This week Judge Mahendra Chetty dismissed the appeal in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
In his judgment, Judge Chetty said the original sentence imposed by the trial court paid lip service to the seriousness of the offence and jailed her for 5 years. ....
