Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood says the December quarter’s 0.9 per cent rise is significant and higher than the market expected.

He said if inflation does take off due to government stimulus measures and low interest rates then the Reserve Bank is going to have to respond.

“This is not an immediate fear. The Reserve Bank has said it will keep rates on hold for the foreseeable future, the next couple of years at least," he said.
