AVice-President Yemi Osinbajo has kicked against the ban on cryptocurrency, saying financial authorities should have strengthened regulation and not prohibit cryptocurrency transactions.
Citing irregularities, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had directed banks to halt cryptocurrency transactions.
But speaking at a one-day economic summit organized by the CBN, the Banker’s Committee, and the Vanguard Newspaper, the nation’s number two citizen opposed a policy that prohibits cryptocurrency operations in the banking sector, saying: “We must act with knowledge and not fear.”

Nigerian VP see blockchain technology, cryptocurrency challenge traditional banking system in future, seeks regulation

Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has called for the regulation of cryptocurrency in Nigeria, as against the exclusion of the digital currency from the financial ecosystem in the country.
He said this at the one-day special summit of the Bankers Committee organised by the Vanguard Newspaper on Friday at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has admonished the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and to reflect on the decision to ban cryptocurrency, saying that there should be regulation rather than prohibiting its use.
He stated this on Friday in a keynote address delivered virtually at a one-day economic summit organized by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Banker’s Committee, and the Vanguard Newspaper, themed “Bankers’ Initiative for Economic Growth”.
He said rather than adopt a policy that prohibits cryptocurrency operations in the country, “we must act with knowledge and not fear” and develop a robust regulatory regime that is thoughtful and knowledge-based. ....
