Warrington Town Hall to light up green for Eid | Warrington Guardian

WARRINGTON Town Hall will be bathed in green light this evening, Thursday, as part of global celebrations.
The town’s Muslims will join millions across the world in celebrating Eid, marking the end of Ramadan.
Residents are being urged to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr safely and in line with current coronavirus restrictions.
This means that people should meet others outdoors in groups of no more than six, or two households, while adhering to social distancing measures.
The festival at the end of the fasting month of Ramadan is traditionally marked with communal prayers in mosques, and visits to friends and family. ....

Warrington elects first British Bangladeshi councillor

“I feel extremely proud to be the town’s first British Bangladeshi councillor.
“I am so, so grateful with the support people have given to me.
“I will do everything that I can to repay the trust people have put in me with their votes.
“I just want to thank each and every voter who put their trust in me – it means so much to me.
“I will do my best for you.”
Mr Hussain is also the secretary of Warrington Ethnic Communities Association, which organises the town’s Mela.
And he took the opportunity to highlight his pride at the borough’s cultural diversity and the way the Mela has grown in size since the first one in 2012. ....
