Chris Sununu last week acted to lift the mask mandate effective midnight last Saturday while still encouraging âsocial distancing and the wearing of masks when appropriate,â adding that âitâs just a good idea.â Thatâs true â which leads one to ponder: then why lift the mask mandate now? âEveryone is really doing their part to stare down COVID,â Sununu said. âThe pandemic is not over, and weâre not declaring victory by any means on any of this, but our successes to date have created opportunity.â ....
The pandemic hit home on the local restaurant front with a vengeance last week, forcing several establishments to close temporarily and visitors. Among eateries posting they were closed due to COVID but would reopen soon after cleaning and quarantining were Moat Mountain Smokehouse & Tavern in North Conway; Sunrise Shack in Glen; Horsefeathers Restaurant in North Conway; May Kellyâs Cottage in North Conway; Wildcat Tavern in Jackson; Fiesta Jaliscoâs Mexican restaurant in North Conway; and Tuckerman Restaurant and Tavern in Intervale. The Sunrise Shack, a breakfast eatery that had set up outdoor picnic tables last summer to increase its seating, posted on Facebook on Jan. 19: âHereâs the post that you hope not to have to write ⦠Out of an abundance of caution, The Shack is going to shut down starting tomorrow due a COVID exposure. Weâre hopeful that this shutdown will be limited to a week.â ....
New Chairs and Vice-Chairs Elected to Member Councils Share The National League of Cities has elected new leaders for its Member Councils, which represents the variety of communities that make up NLC membership. Individuals were elected during the 2020 Virtual City Summit Conference. “Our Councils are an important part of how NLC ensures that we are representing the diversity of our cities, towns, and villages,” said NLC President Kathy Maness, councilmember, Lexington, South Carolina. “As the largest membership and advocacy organization for local elected officials, our Member Councils are where local officials bring together similar experiences but also share challenges – and best practices for addressing them.” ....
