EPP Ministers of Foreign Affairs discussed the situation in Russia and stressed that Alexei Navalny must be immediately and unconditionally released. The EPP Foreign Ministers underlined that it is high time to reassess the EU strategy towards Russia, to move from a reactive to a proactive approach. It is also a moment to strengthen our cooperation with the new US administration, as well as to discuss a possible package of new restrictive measures related to Mr Navalny’s poisoning and imprisonment. We condemn last weekend’s violent detentions of peaceful protesters, the taking down of the internet and the disproportionate use of force by Russian authorities. We expect Russia to immediately release these detained individuals and to uphold its CoE and OSCE commitments ....
