Queensland Takes First Step in Creating Australia-Japan Hydrogen Supply Chain
The Queensland government has taken a step closer to establishing a hydrogen export hub in the state’s north with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Port of Townsville and Origin Australia.
The deal, signed on April 14,  promises the development of a hydrogen liquefaction facility and the expansion of the port to facilitate the export of hydrogen using specially designed liquid hydrogen carriers.
Origin Energy stated in a media release that, once developed, an estimated 36,500 tonnes of hydrogen every year will be shipped in a joint export project between Origin and Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries. ....

Origin Energy signs up for hydrogen partnership with Korean steel giant
Leading South Korean manufacturer Posco has signed a watershed deal with Australian power company Origin Energy to use our hydrogen to create green steel.
The two companies have entered into a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on producing and supplying green power to Korea. The announcement comes as operations worldwide seek to decarbonise their industries, as the world works towards a more sustainable future.
Origin is already preparing export-scale projects, including a 300-megawatt project in Townsville powered by wind and solar, and a 500-megawatt green ammonia plant at Bell Bay Tasmania. This could be the first of many partnerships forged with major nations, including China, Japan and Korea, committing to be carbon net-zero by 2050 or 2060. ....

Australia’s Origin Energy is progressing its export-scale liquid hydrogen project after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Port of Townsville to collaborate on the potential expansion of the port, as well as the development of a liquefaction facility, new berth and associated infrastructure.
Origin is collaborating with Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd (KHI) on a 300MW early export project that would produce 36,500 tonnes per annum of green liquid hydrogen using renewable energy and sustainable water. ....

Origin Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Townsville in Queensland to collaborate on the potential expansion of the port, developing a liquefaction facility, new berth and associated infrastructure for its liquid hydrogen export project, the company said on April 14. 
Origin is collaborating with Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) on a 300-MW export project that would produce 36,500 metric tons/year of green liquid hydrogen using renewable energy and sustainable water. First exports are envisaged in the mid-2020s. 
“The three parties will now focus on work required to accommodate KHI’s semi-commercial scale liquid hydrogen carriers, currently under development, future project expansion opportunities, and potential for sharing of common infrastructure with other Port of Townsville users,” Origin said.  ....
