City provides COVID-19 update for new year

On Monday, Jan. 18, the City of Elliot Lake hosted a virtual town hall meeting to provide updates regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Dan Marchisella moderated the proceedings and opened with the sad news that a person within the Algoma region had recently died after contracting the virus.
“There has been a loss of life in the Algoma district due to COVID-19,” Marchisella said. “It’s a tragic and unneeded loss of life.
“I’m not sure where in the district, but to me it doesn’t matter, we’re all one big northern family, and I’d like to send my condolences to the family, and hopefully we don’t hear of any more of these tragedies.” ....

City to limit some services during provincial lockdown, Christmas dinner a go

Following orders from the provincial government for a renewed lockdown, the City of Elliot Lake has cancelled all recreation programs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 10. More specifically keep in mind:
– All programs at the municipal pool, Centennial Arena and the Collins Hall walking program are cancelled during the lockdown period.
– Transit services will be maintained throughout (other than typical Holiday closures).
– The Age Friendly Delivers grocery

Elliot Lake city councillors voted to extend the community’s Age Friendly Delivers program into the new year at a regular city council meeting on Monday.
Council last approved an extension of the program to the end of December, but because of a steady demand for service, city staff recommended the program continue until March 2021.
