50 new COVID-19 cases reported in Windsor-Essex, no new deaths over two days

WINDSOR, ONT.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reporting a total of 50 new cases of COVID-19 and no new deaths for Monday and Tuesday.
The death toll related to COVID-19 is at 424 people.
Windsor-Essex has had a total of 16,423 confirmed cases of the virus, including 15,639 people who have recovered.
BREAKDOWN OF NEW CASES
12 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases
3 cases are outbreak related
29 cases are still under investigation

There are 21 Windsor-Essex residents with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital and 2 people are in the ICU.
The health unit website says 1,643 preliminary or confirmed Variant of Concern (VOC) cases have been identified. ....

Early talks underway to transform former Sears into vaccination clinic

WINDSOR, ONT.
Officials with the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit confirm they are in the early discussion stages with the City of Windsor and Windsor Regional Hospital about possibly creating a new vaccination site at the former Sears store inside Devonshire Mall.
“There’s still a lot of moving parts,” says CEO Theresa Marentette. “We will be supporting the sites at Sears if it all moves forward.”
This comes are talks continue as to when to close vaccination sites at community centres in Windsor, Leamington and Amherstburg.
No timelines were announced. ....

OPP to conduct year-long evaluative study into body-worn cameras

WINDSOR, ONT.
Ontario Provincial Police started a year-long evaluative study into body-worn cameras Tuesday to help inform the use of new technologies in the future.
An OPP news release says the provincial police will be equipping its West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team as well as all uniformed officers of the Haldimand detachment with body cams as part of the study.
“The OPP has conducted a comprehensive review of policies and procedures developed by our partner police agencies as it relates to the use and privacy impacts of BWCs. Procedures have been created to address potential privacy concerns and to ensure the security of the video once it has been recorded during the course of this study,” the release says. ....

Police continue to search for missing person in Lake St. Clair

WINDSOR
A water rescue has turned into a search mission on Lake St. Clair.
Windsor police confirming they are now looking for the body of a man who they describe as in his early 20s.
Two OPP vessels were searching the water near Sandpoint Beach Sunday.
Officers were called to a person in distress around 5:30 p.m. Saturday after he was reportedly swimming in the area at the time
The U.S. Coast guard also assisted with the rescue mission Saturday with a vessel and a helicopter.
Officials tell CTV News alcohol did not play a factor in the man s death. ....

Two kayakers rescued on Lake St. Clair Sunday by Windsor police

WINDSOR, ONT.
The Windsor police marine unit that was searching for a missing man on Lake St. Clair had to help a pair of kayakers after their vessels capsized.
Officials say it happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday near the area of the Windsor Yacht Club.
A woman suffered from hypothermia.
Police say the pair are lucky police were already on the water. If not, they say the outcome may have been different.
They are reminding everyone on the water to be cautious.
