Srinagar, Feb 23: After district Anantnag, Bird Flu cases have now been reported from district Bandipora where domestic geese have been found positive, while as in Shopian, the samples of dead crows have tested positive for the Avian Flu.
The sample of the geese that have tested positive for the Avian Flu was collected 18 days back and was sent to a laboratory in Zakura. From the Zakura lab, the sample was sent to Ludhiana which further sent it to Bhopal for confirmation. ....

Cases Of Avian Influenza Detected In Shopian
An official told the news agency
KNO that some dead crows were found a few days before in the village, following which, their samples were taken, which were tested positive.
District Magistrate Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishyal has issued necessary precautions to prevent the spread of infection to the poultry birds.
“ICAR-NISHAD (OIE Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza) has confirmed that the samples of dead crows in the district are positive for Avian Influenza Virus H5N8,” reads the order issued by District Magistrate.
“The epicenter of the positive samples has been reported in village Wadipora, Tehsil Chitragam, District Shopian. It is imperative on the part of the administration that immediate necessary action should be taken in order to prevent the spread of infection to the poultry birds as well as to the general masses,” the order further reads. ....

Amid bird flu scare looming large in some of the states, as many as 150 crows have been found dead in Jammu & Kashmir s Udhampur district on Thursday. The samples of the dead crows have been sent for testing.
The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer of Udhampur, Dr Inderjeet Singh that birds may have died due to a cold wave. We got a report of dead crows, in the morning. We have collected 150 carcasses so far and will test them for virus. But they could have died from inclement weather in the last few days in the area, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer said. ....
