Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 6/11/2021 11:31:08 AM Wilton voters raised the proposed budget by $30,000 for increased police salaries to attract and retain police officers during Town Meeting on Thursday Wilton voters met outside on Thursday evening in front of Florence Rideout Elementary School, to complete the in-person Town Meeting, which was set at a later date than usual due to COVID-19 considerations.  The first matter of business for the town was the budget, set this year at $5,259,397. However, after an introduction to the proposed budget, Police Chief Eric Olesen proposed a $30,000 addition, to be used for police salaries. He said police departments across the state are in a “critical situation” in trying to hire and retain officers.

Published: 6/9/2021 4:00:55 PM The Department of Education has required school districts put into place a plan for the 2021-22 school year by June 23, and local districts are starting to make decisions about what the fall will look like. Earlier this year, Gov. Chris Sununu announced all K-12 schools must offer a full-time, in-person learning as of April 19, and all local schools have been operating full-time since then, if they weren’t already, but still offered a fully-remote option. Local school districts appear ready to carry on the five-day in-person schedule in the fall, according to current reopening plan discussions. On Monday, the Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School Board made two adjustments to its current framework, effective immediately, and discussed a community survey asking parents their preferences for the fall.

Youth circus has a long history in Wilton, and most of it can be traced back to Rick and Jackie Davis. Jackie Davis, a circus educator, founded Flying Gravity Circus in 1999, and is the executive director of the Silver Lining Circus Camp, a summer program and offshoot of Flying Gravity. When Flying Gravity was faced with moving forward in 2021 or canceling a second straight season, Davis said she wanted to make sure another summer wasn’t completely lost.
