Phased reopening to begin next week as vaccination plan moves to over 50s Public must ‘stick with strategy’, says Taoiseach, with May and June set for easing of restrictions
about 5 hours ago
Taoiseach Micheál Martin last night confirmed that the widespread reopening of social life and commercial activity would proceed in May and June, with the further restoration of normal life in prospect for July.
The reopening will take place in stages, beginning next Monday and continuing on the following Mondays during May and into June, when hotels will reopen and outdoor hospitality will return.
In a televised address delivered on the steps of Government Buildings on Thursday evening, Mr Martin said the Cabinet had, as expected, agreed to begin lifting a large number of restrictions – including on travel, personal services, retail, outdoor socialising and religious services – in early May.

Dublin City Council has announced that a grant agreement has now been signed for funding of over €900,000 for the redevelopment of Dalymount Park.
The agreement was signed with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in relation to the Dalymount Park Redevelopment Project.
The allocation of €918,750 from the Large Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) will part fund the design and planning elements of the project.
Dublin City Council will now appoint an architect led integrated design team that will begin work shortly on the preliminary design.
During this process there will be consultation with all the relevant stakeholders including both Bohemian FC and Shelbourne FC and the wider North Dublin Community.
The government has announced a provisional allocation of €3.991m to the FAI under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) for the development of Finn Harps stadium in Donegal.
The Finn Harps project has received funding previously and it is hoped that today’s announcement will allow the project to advance to construction stage.
The actual payment of the grant will be contingent on compliance with all of the other terms and conditions of the LSSIF including assurances that the balance of the construction costs can be secured.
Commenting on the announcement, Minister for Sport Catherine Martin said: This is excellent news for the FAI, Finn Harps Football Club and the football community in Donegal. The government is committed to investing in our sport infrastructure and we have ambitious plans to enhance investment in the LSSIF and the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme in the years ahead.
