Australian firm files patent for disruptive new textile

Nanollose Limited, a company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, has filed a joint patent application for a production process that has the ability to produce an environmentally friendly nullarbor lyocell fibre that uses microbial cellulose instead of tree pulp.
It has filed the application with Grasim Industries Ltd, one of the largest Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) producers globally.
The joint patent application is for a reportedly superior and environmentally friendly lyocell, which is finer than silk and significantly stronger than conventional lyocell made from wood pulp.
Birla Cellulose, Grasim’s business unit focused on sustainable fibres, is among the largest producers of man-made cellulosic fibres (MMCF), and this, combined with their expertise and capabilities in fibre production, represents a new opportunity for Nanollose to advance the commercialisation of tree-free op ....

The National Committee on Textiles & Clothing (NCTC) has requested the government to remove anti-dumping duty (ADD) on Viscose Staple Fibre (VSF) and address the VSF spun yarn availability and price issues to prevent job losses and stoppage of production across the VSF textile value chain.
NCTC said that the textile industry has been facing stagnation since many years due to a lack of availability of the basic raw materials of man-made fibre / filament yarn at internationally competitive prices.
Taking a serious view of the high price of VSF in India, the captains of the various segments of VSF value chain, viz Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), Indian Spinners Association (ISA) and Powerloom Development Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) under the common platform of NCTC have unanimously submitted a joint representation to the prime minister for the removal o ....

A joint committee of textile industry bodies has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi s intervention in removing anti-dumping duty on viscose staple fibre (VSF) to address the VSF spun yarn availability and price issues.
The National Committee on Textiles & Clothing (NCTC) comprising of different players in the VSF value chain said the textile industry has been facing stagnation since many years mainly due to the lack of availability of the basic raw materials of man-made fibre and filament yarn at internationally competitive prices.
