Responding to the declaration of a heat warning, the City of Windsor opened a temporary cooling centre at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre for people needing relief from the heat.
The cooling centre opened Tuesday in the atrium of the downtown aquatic centre, located at 401 Pitt St. W. The city also advises it has eight splash pads in operation and lifeguards began keeping watch at Sand Point Beach on Tuesday, with daily supervision from from 1 to 7 p.m. ....

With the local health unit issuing a heat warning for the weekend, the City of Windsor is opening the atrium at the downtown aquatic centre as a temporary cooling centre.
The cooling centre is meant for people unable to find relief from the heat at home. The city’s seven splash pads are also in operation seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The forecasted high for Saturday is 32C with an overnight low of 21C, according to Environment Canada. On Sunday, the high will be 31 with an overnight low of 21. The health unit issues a heat warning when the forecast calls for two consecutive days with highs of at least 31C and overnight lows of at least 21C. This is the first heat warning of the year. ....

WINDSOR, ONT.
Windsor-Essex is under a heat warning for the next two days prompting the City of Windsor to open temporary cool shelters.
The decision made my Dr. Wajid Ahmed, medical officer of health for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit based on projections by Environment Canada.
A heat warning is issued when two consecutive days are forecasted to have a daytime high temperature greater than or equal to 31°C and overnight temperatures greater than or equal to 21°C or a humidex of 42 or greater.
The City of Windsor is opening a temporary cooling centre for residents unable to find relief from the heat at home or by using one of the seven city splash pads. ....

Vaccinations Underway For Persons Experiencing Homelessness

Vaccinations begin today at the Temporary Emergency Shelter at the Aquatic Centre for persons experiencing homelessness.
“It’s difficult to adhere to a ‘stay at home’ order, when you don’t have a home”, says Mayor Drew Dilkens. “We are grateful that our residents who face additional challenges from COVID-19 are able to access the vaccine. We would especially like to thank EMS, the Health Unit, and CRST Medical Teams for their help in vaccinating residents”.
Several non-profit agencies serving persons experiencing homelessness continue to help serve residents in need.
