Nigeria, for about one and half decades, has been on a journey with the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), with a lot of anticipation and promises, which failed overtime in previous National Assemblies. However, two years into the Ninth Assembly, the two chambers at plenary on July 1, passed the Bill for third reading after duly adopting all the 318 clauses as recommended by the Committee on PIB after some amendments. With this latest development, it seems the Ninth Assembly is set to make history, if the PIB is eventually assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari. ....

PIB: House Promises to Prioritise Petitions from Oil-producing Communities

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, Hon. Dumnamene Dekor, yesterday said the lawmakers would consider all the petitions sent to it by the various oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta region before the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
Dekor made the disclosure while briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja on the activities of his committee.
The lawmaker, who appealed for patience and understanding from Nigerians particularly the people of the Niger Delta region, assured them that the bill would bring positive returns to all the stakeholders.
According to him, “Principally, prior to this time, you see all kinds of petitions. Today, I am aware that the gate of Agip in Port Harcourt was blocked for certain demands by those in the community. You also see all kinds of such activities all over the region. We have received several petitions. We are studying them. Our consultants are looking at them with t ....

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, Dumnamene Dekor, has cautioned oil and gas firms against evading social corporate responsibility (CSR) in their areas of operations.

Dekor, who threatened to sanction oil firms found wanting in their responsibilities, disclosed that the committee was reviewing several petitions on the plight of oil-bearing host communities in the Niger Delta region.
The Rivers State-born lawmaker assured that challenges associated with neglect of oil-bearing host communities would be assuaged with the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) in two weeks time. ....
