Legions get some federal help paying expenses amid COVID

Eight local Royal Canadian Legions got federal funding to help them with expenses incurred during the pandemic, including for insurance, utilities, rent or mortgages, property taxes and wages.
The money comes from the federal Veterans Organizations Emergency Relief Fund. It went to those Legions which applied for the funding, which was distributed through Dominion Command, a news release from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff said.

There is $14 million available and half of the country’s Legions received funding from this first allotment, including in Hanover, Dundalk, Durham, Owen Sound, Chatsworth and Hepworth-Shallow Lake, which received $10,845.05 each, Flesherton-Markdale, which received $10,380, and Lion’s Head, which received $7,471. ....

Federal pandemic financial assistance is coming to Legion branches in Grey Bruce.
Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff says in a statement, he’s pleased to see the support, “Legions across Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound are cornerstones in our communities and are critical to supporting local veterans and their families. It is key that the government provides support to these Canadian institutions to ensure that they remain open and able to support and honour our veterans,” says Ruff.
About half of Royal Canadian Legion Branches are receiving money in this first allotment of a $14 million Veterans Organizations Emergency Relief Fund (VOERF). ....
