Grant aids Werribee's pandemic recovery

The Werribee Football Club has been given $130,000 to help its recovery from the pandemic and to succeed in the restructured VFL competition.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas last week said Werribee has scored funding from the state government’s Strengthening Victoria’s AFL Development Pathways Program (SVADPP).
Mr Pallas said Werribee as “a long and famous history and are a much-loved part of the community”.
“This support will help the club stay COVID-safe and thrive in the expanded VFL competition to the benefit of local players, volunteers and supporters,” he said.
Under the SVADPP initiative, nine Victorian football clubs have been given grants to help support the extra costs of staying COVID-safe and to help meet the travel expenses associated with playing games interstate due to the pandemic. ....

The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation has approved the installation of 70 pokies machines in Truganina, despite community opposition and a unanimous vote against the proposal by Wyndham City Council.
Alliance for Gambling Reform chief advocate Rev Tim Costello told Paul Kennedy the outcome of the application - made by the Werribee Football Club and supported by State Member for Werribee Tim Pallas - was disappointing .
A VCGLR spokesperson said the commission considered the position of the (Werribee Football) Club and concerns raised by Council and other community groups in making its decision.
After a two-day hearing last month, the Commission determined that the application on balance would have no net detriment to the well-being of the community of the City of Wyndham, the spokesperson said. ....

Clubs Receive Boost To Level Playing Field

The Andrews Labor Government is investing funding to level the playing field for women and girls in sport and active recreation.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today announced 21 community sporting organisations across the state which will benefit from the first round of the Labor Government’s 2020-21
Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program.
The community activation grants, worth $2,500 each, are designed to support Victorian clubs and sporting organisations to further gender equality through sport and active recreation. This round of the program has been redesigned to fund the delivery of an online workshop for more than 100 nominated club members. ....
